PolyActive is an independent working group of OPEN.
PolyActive emerged from advocacy efforts for polyamorous and consensual non-monogamous communities that date back to the 1800s. The contemporary movement began in 1999 at the Loving More Polyamory conference in Berkeley, California, eventually expanding to include academic conferences and legislative efforts to eliminate discrimination against people in non-nuclear family structures.

In late 2023, PolyActive divided into East Bay and South Bay groups to better serve their respective regions. The South Bay PolyActive group joined OPEN as an independent working group in 2025.
PolyActive partnered with OPEN to secure groundbreaking non-discrimination ordinances in Oakland (April 2024) and Berkeley (May 2024). These historic victories significantly elevated the credibility of relationship diversity advocacy and sparked increased enthusiasm for non-monogamy activism throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
