Hi Brett,

Happy Monday and Happy March! In just a few weeks, we’ll be celebrating OPEN’s one year anniversary. Thank you for being of the movement for a more open and loving world! We’re still just getting started and can’t wait for the next chapter of our work together. In the meantime, here’s the story since our last newsletter.

  • Legislative updates: We’re continuing to advocate for bills providing anti-discrimination protections on the basis of “family and relationship structure.” It looks like we’ll see a first-in-the-nation bill pass in the city of Somerville, in the US state of Massachusetts, very soon! We’re also continuing to work with city council members in multiple cities in California’s Bay Area to introduce identical legislation. Stay tuned!

  • Town Hall: We’ll be holding our next Town Hall on Wednesday, March 22 at 4pm PST. Town Halls are an opportunity for us to chat with our community in order to get your feedback and hear your ideas! RSVP at https://www.open-love.org/rsvp/townhall!

  • Open Workplaces: Our Open Workplaces Initiative is an effort to advance visibility and inclusion of non-monogamous identities in workplace settings. If you’re a non-monogamous professional interested in collaborating, join the Discord server where this project is hubbed! We’re starting to see this project bear fruit; for example, the good folks at MAPS.org have started including “family and relationship structures” within the diversity statement of their job postings!

  • Non-monogamy in the news! The New York Times wrote about “handfasting” ceremonies to mark commitment between non-monogamous partners (share on Facebook / Twitter). We also got some new poll data back about Americans’ attitudes towards non-monogamy (share on Facebook / Twitter). Finally, we’re loving this personal essay titled “What Monogamy Misses” (share on Facebook / Twitter).

That’s all for now! We’ll be writing again in a couple weeks to invite you to join us in celebrating OPEN’s one year birthday and the growing movement for a more open and loving world.

Til then,
Brett Chamberlin, Executive Director
