Building protections for family and relationship structures in Oregon

OPEN is working with local advocacy to bring non-discrimination protections to communities across Oregon. From Astoria to Portland to Corvallis and beyond, we're building momentum for legislation that protects all families and relationships, regardless of their shape.

What We're Working Toward

OPEN is working with local advocates across Oregon to pass ordinances that add "family or relationship structure" as a protected category in cities' existing non-discrimination laws.

This protection cover diverse families and relationships including consensually non-monogamous relationships, multi-partner and multi-parent families, multi-generational households, chosen families, stepfamilies and blended families, single-parent households, and asexual and aromantic relationships.

Where we stand

We're currently supporting grassroots organizing efforts in Portland, Beaverton, and Astoria with plans to expand into Salem and Eugene.

In Portland, we have a commitment to introduce these protections in late 2025 or early 2026. Click here to learn more about our progress in Portland!

If you're interested in joining or leading an organizing effort in your city, please get in touch!

Our immediate focus is connecting with allied organizations, building community support, and advocating for these protections in cities across the state.
