What We're Working Toward

Local Discrimination Protections

OPEN is working with local advocates across Rhode Island to pass ordinances that add "family or relationship structure" as a protected category in cities' existing non-discrimination laws, with a focus on Providence.

These protections cover diverse families and relationships including consensually non-monogamous relationships, multi-partner and multi-parent families, multi-generational households, chosen families, stepfamilies and blended families, single-parent households, and asexual and aromantic relationships.

Repealing RI’s Anti-Adultery Law

Rhode Island is one of 15 US states where adultery is illegal, making non-monogamous relationships a crime if any of the participants are married. We’re building community support and identify champions in the state legislator in order to repeal this antiquated and unconstitutional law.

Where we stand

We're working to form a grassroots coalition of advocates and organizations in Rhode Island in order to pass non-discrimination and repeal the state’s anti-adultery law.

Our immediate focus is connecting with allied organizations, building community support, and advocating for these protections in cities across the state.
