Building protections for family and relationship structures in Washington
OPEN is working with local advocates to bring non-discrimination protections to communities across Washington. We're building momentum for legislation that protects all families and relationships, regardless of their structure.

What We're Working Toward
OPEN is partnering with local advocates across Oregon to pass ordinances that add "family or relationship structure" as a protected category in cities' existing non-discrimination laws.
These protections cover diverse families and relationships including consensually non-monogamous relationships, multi-partner and multi-parent families, multi-generational households, chosen families, stepfamilies and blended families, single-parent households, and asexual and aromantic relationships.
Where we stand
We’re working closely with our partners at the Seattle Coalition for Family and Relationship Equity to build community power and gather support for these protections.
Our current focus is on Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia. In Olympia, we have a commitment to begin the process to introduce our bill, with final passage expected in the first half of 2026.
